The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

The standing barrier was installed during Obama's time in office. The rusting uninstalled wall happened during Trump's time in office.

In fairness, I probably wouldn't have known that. I could have deduced that the rusting pile was from his term because during the Biden term a lot of the construction stopped. But I wouldn't have known the standing wall was erected during the Obama years.

Though, as I recall, the Trump portions are already falling down, rusting, and/or being taken down by Mexicans to use as raw material for hovel construction.

Also, I agree with the other poster that a 2000 mile wall is a stupid idea. As I was saying on TMF years ago. The Chinese built a better wall, and garrisoned it with troops, and it still didn't stop a lot of people. There are regions that are so desolate that walking is an almost certain death sentence. There are no towns, no roads (except maybe fire roads), no nuthin'. You would be crazy to try to cross between -for example- Douglas (Agua Prieta) and the New Mexico line.

Plus, as the data show, the people are actually seeking out officials to turn themselves into, so they can apply for asylum. So you would want to cross near Nogales or Yuma or Douglas, where you might actually find someone you can turn yourself into.
