I’d have this Congressional Resolution framed and hung on my wall:
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
January 23, 2025
Mr. Brecheen (for himself, Mr. Clyde, Mr. Grothman, Mr. Burlison, Mrs.
Miller of Illinois, Mr. Harris of North Carolina, Mrs. Bice, Mrs. Luna,
Mr. Moore of Alabama, Mr. Ogles, Ms. Greene of Georgia, Mr. Norman, Mr.
Webster of Florida, Mr. Allen, Mr. Babin, Mrs. Houchin, Ms. Van Duyne,
Mr. Baird, Mrs. Biggs of South Carolina, Ms. Boebert, and Mr. Griffith)
submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

RESOLUTION
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the sermon
given by the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde at the National Prayer
Service on January 21st, 2025, at the National Cathedral was a display of political activism and condemning its distorted message.
Whereas the National Prayer Service is a longstanding tradition in which the
United States publicly affirms dependence upon God and prays for the success of our President and Vice President;
Whereas, on January 21, 2025, President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J.D.
Vance took part in the National Prayer Service at the National Cathedral
in Washington, DC; and
Whereas the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop leading the inaugural
prayer service, used her position inappropriately, promoting political
bias instead of advocating the full counsel of biblical teaching: Now,
therefore, be it
Resolved, That--
(1) it is the sense of the House of Representatives that
the sermon given at the National Prayer Service on January 21st, 2025, at the National Cathedral was a display of political activism; and
(2) the House of Representatives condemns the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde's distorted message.
As I said a few days ago, they recoil from the gospel of Jesus like vampires from the sunlight.

The sermon showed "political bias" my ass! I'll bet most of these morons didn't even read it. But perhaps advocating for kindness and compassion is political now.
Here's the full sermon, which is well worth reading:

I love it when Christians hate hearing the gospel of Jesus.

Bullies can’t show kindness or compassion. Their power is entirely rooted on keeping people in fear.
The MAGA movement is based on fear. They keep their followers afraid of outside “others”, and they keep those who are not MAGA afraid of what they are going to do next.

CHINOS
CHristians In Name Only
The good news for them is all they have to do is make an honest attempt to follow the teachings of Jesus instead of settling for “thoughts and prayers”,
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; go away from me, you who behave lawlessly.’
And what does it mean to “do the will of my [Jesus’] Father in heaven.”?
The prophet Micah puts it this way:
8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good,
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice and to love kindness
and to walk humbly with your God?
Break down what Jesus taught- in his words, his actions and parables, and that’s pretty much what you get.
But stuffed shirt Republican Pharisees who are collectively enacting the opposite of kindness, justice and humility- are arrayed against a sermon by Rev. Budde that lifted up precisely these virtues that Jesus so exhaustively preached.
They worship Jesus with their lips, but their hearts are far from him.
As if simply saying some magic words like “I accept Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and savior” will somehow save them from the wrath to come
It won’t

Ephesians 2:8: Salvation is achieved through faith, not by works
Doesn't matter what you do, as long as you believe.
There is a similar passage in Romans (almost verbatim, actually).
You can find anything you want in that book. That's why it's a guide to nothing.

Nobody’s talking about salvation by works, onepoorguy. Your evangelical upbringinging is showing through there.

Next time I hope they can book the Reverend Al Sharpton. His message of loving one another and unity is just what this country needs.

Wow, talk about thin-skinned! Don't these people have real jobs with actual work to do? It's almost like deep down they have a guilty conscience or something, that they have to be defensive and cry about.
Attack, attack, attack--that's the Trumpian way, which now seems to be the American way.
Do these politicians really think that they get to tell religious leaders the proper way to apply their religious beliefs to real life situations? Sounds an awful lot like the way they do things in China...but this is America! Er...isn't it?

I didn't really have an "evangelical upbringing". But that would be more appropriate for the atheist board, if you really want to know about it.
My point remains, you can find anything in that book that you want to support whatever view you have.

Just to pick a nit, Yeshu was not a xian. He was a Hebrew person (most likely) adhering to what we now call the Old Testament, which he said still applies.
But it is interesting how political preferences are changing the supposed message. All that "love thy neighbor" stuff is just hippy-dippy now.
