HOW IT WORKS: All you have do is hit the usual unhappy face to the right of the author's name whilst reading any post, and they move to your ignore list. The part that is new is that when a user is in the ignore list of just 3 users, then BOOM! - the user is not just ignored, but banned from Shrewd'm - instantly and permanently.
The left/democrat posters on this Board far out number conservative/right leaning posters and
there are many left leaning posters who read this Board, but do not post here will rec’ a post and now can also hit the frowny face.
With these kind of odds, it’s easy to realize how quickly a poster can disappear from the Shrew’m plus the disappearance of free speech/opinions....
The same reason why too, left leaning posts get many rec’s with awards piling up while only 3 or 4 recs for the conservative poster posting at the US Policy Board....cause that’s all there are of us here at the US Policy Board.

WLast night, as I read of this new feature/policy of the Shrew’d, I had the uneasy feeling that this could be misused- or at the least, could inadvertently kick someone in to the outer darkness of gnashing teeth.
I’v banished you and Jedi for short periods of time, but never for long.. Eventually, I’ve pulled you back out again.
The problem, as you point out, is that there’s more of us than of you. What happens if three of us simultaneously put you in the penalty box? Poof, you’re gone. At the time, I might feel that is fitting. But unfortunately, the remedy is a permanent one- banishment with no hope of parole.
I don’t want that sort of power. Consequently, my frowny face penalty box will be completely empty from this point forward. If we ever get a poster who truly deserves banishment (I only ran across one in all my years at the fool), then, ok, let’s all talk about it, and then make a decision together, and take responsibility for that decision, but the normal antagonisms that occur here hardly merit banishment by anonymous algorithm.

Anyhow that was a good April Fools joke. I felled for it hook, line and sinker.
I did not ban anyone at the Fool, insults and nasty was so frequent, half the posters would have been grayed out. It’s where I grew a thick skin. The only thing that would upset me there is when one would think it okay to include insulting DH and Sons.
For a while I banned a women on this Board, forgot her user name, I called her the ‘screeching banshee’, she just wouldn’t leave me alone but couldn’t wear me down though and she finally disappeared from this Board.
The other one was Umm, we all know him, lol. All his insults ring the same to whoever he is directing his nasty-nasty to and now I read his posts for the laugher it brings me.
I never banned you Bill, there were times maybe I should have ;) but I reached a point a long time ago when someone goes the insult route, it just doesn’t matter, it’s water off a duck’s back
and I go on my merry way.

Are there any lessons to be learned with that experience? Application of more critical thinking? Bringing in outside facts (like a calendar in this example)? Any recognition that people don't always tell the truth?

I also didn't realize it was April Fools. At TMF, they often got me. I never think about April Fools.
I think the idea of permanent banishment could be useful, but it was too easy under the proposed outline. I can only think of one or two from TMF that warranted it, and one of them was banned eventually. It was a high bar to clear before they tossed him.

I knew a few folks that got time-outs, but only one was permanent. He went on a racist tirade, and enough people complained that TMF had no choice.
The post was removed before I read it, but I was told about it. He gave TMF no choice, based on what I heard. It was ugly.
