Is anyone old enough to remember... I wonder if the Iranian wild eyed mullahs got a clue that their days of jacking this country around were about to come to an immediate disconclusion? You're a seriously delusional fella'. First you give us nonsense that a young woman recoiled from president Biden when the video proved, without a doubt, that she did not and that she and her two friends asked for and got a selfie with the president and chatted with him with delight throughout their encounter.
Now you arrive here with a front seat to history tale of the Mighty Saint Ronnie giving those wild-eyed Iranian Mullahs the "immediate disconclusion" (what the hell is that, anyway?) that they'll ever jack around with our country again, neglecting some pretty important history that no doubt us younger folk have read: the fact that
Mighty Saint Ronnie illegally sold arms to Iran, the subject of an arms embargo at the time, to use the proceeds of the arms sale to illegally fund the Contras, an anti-Sandinista rebel group in Nicaragua.
Or is that an example of Orange Jesus's "total presidential immunity" the cult eagerly supports?
Also, there is plenty of evidence that Ronald Reagan’s campaign manager, the late William Casey, ran a multipronged covert operation to keep the hostages in Iranian hands until after the presidential election so that Carter could not have the "October Surprise" that the Reagan campaign believed would decisively tilt the election to Carter.
Casey, remember, was an OSS spymaster for the Allies during World War II, who had previously paid $1,500 to an anti-Carter operative named Paul Corbin to obtain a stolen copy of Carter’s closely held debate briefing book and passed it on to James Baker.
Carter’s diplomatic efforts to free the hostages were nearly successful in September and October 1980 and no one quite understood at the time why they fell apart. After all, Iran was desperate for cash at the time. Although it was suspected that Casey had quietly flown to Madrid, where he met with Ayatollah Mehdi Karrubi, a high-ranking representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to promise a better deal from Reagan if the hostages were not released it was difficult placing Casey in Madrid at the time. It was not until 2011, when the late Robert Parry, an investigative reporter, found an old memo buried in President George H.W. Bush’s presidential library that it was clearly established Casey was, in fact, in Madrid on the day in question.
...Casey’s unpatriotic conduct should now be viewed by historians as an established fact. And there is strong circumstantial evidence -- though no documentary proof -- that an actual deal was struck. But even if there was no consummated deal, the signals Casey sent to the Iranians through multiple channels that they would get a better shake if Reagan was elected almost certainly delayed the release of the hostages.
In the end, it was Carter, not Reagan, who secured their freedom. Early on the morning of January 20, 1981, just hours before he left office, Carter completed the final, complex negotiations, with Algeria as the intermediary. He considered it one of the greatest achievements of his life that the hostages all came home safely, though the flight carrying them from Tehran didn’t clear Iranian air space until minutes after Reagan was sworn in.You seem to have had your eyes closed when you had your front row seat to historical events.
Perhaps next you can tell us that the Mighty Saint Ronnie did not, in fact, nearly triple the U.S. debt while in office, increasing the national debt from $995 billion to $2.9 trillion.
Delusional republicans.
