Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged today that the Ukrainian and Russian peace proposals are at an impasse.

Russia handed Ukraine its memorandum on June 2, including demands that Ukraine completely withdraw from occupied territories, limits on troop strength, weapons, and placing a permanent ban on NATO membership for Ukraine; terms which Kyiv says are unacceptable.

“As for the memorandums, as expected, nothing surprising happened... these are two absolutely contradictory memorandums,” Putin said at a press conference in Minsk, Belarus, according to the AFP.

Trump has long argued that only direct negotiations between himself and Putin will be able to end the war. Putin had reportedly offered to help mediate between Iran and Israel, to which Trump replied, “I said, ‘do me a favor, mediate your own [conflict],’” Trump told reporters on the White House lawn.

On June 20, Vladimir Putin revealed that his ambition to annex all of Ukraine had not abated.

“I have said many times that the Russian and Ukrainian people are one nation, in fact. In this sense, all of Ukraine is ours,” he declared at a media conference to mark the opening of the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum on Friday, June 20.

In April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered to buy the US Patriot air defence systems Ukraine needs to fend off daily missile and drone attacks.

At The Hague this week, Zelenskyy said he discussed those Patriot systems with Trump. At a news conference on Wednesday, Trump said: “We’re going to see if we can make some available,” referring to interceptors for existing Patriot systems in Ukraine. “They’re very hard to get. We need them too, and we’ve been supplying them to Israel,” he said.

Then all of Russia belongs to Ukraine. Wipe out Russia and call it Ukraine East, with full governance from Ukraine.

He gets what he wants--but he backed right into it. And he is out.

It was telling that Putin criticized the US for bombing a sovereign country hen we attacked Iran (as contrasted to what Russia has been doing to Ukraine, presumably not one with a legitimate government).
