I think that Trump made a big mistake.
I appreciate and applaud your ability to acknowledge Trump's poor judgement here, unlike say, that "Other Mike" (Johnson), who said "He's made his decision. I don't second-guess those." (How scary is that?)
I would disagree with the term "mistake", or even "big mistake". To me, a mistake is more when someone makes a typo, or if applied to matters of judgement, fails to foresee some consequence, but then when it occurs or is pointed out to them, they acknowledge it and learn from it.
But Trump has had four full years to consider this, and I'm sure the ramifications and consequences have been pointed out to him a million times (if his ego would only let him hear them). He's made his choice (or his ego is completely out of control). It's no "mistake". It will be repeated. I would generously call it a "character flaw". And a very severe one. One that, when coupled with the enormous power he now wields (and tries to add to literally every day), threatens the very fabric of existing peace and stability of the world that we have known and live in in this country (and many other places around the world). I know you probably think I'm being over-dramatic here, but that's how I see it.
