Here we go. How will Trump respond?
Senior Iranian military leaders have urged Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in recent months to approve the construction of a nuclear weapon, according to an unspecified Iranian official speaking to the Telegraph.[1] The article reported that the military leaders have previously supported Khamenei's policy against nuclear weapons but now feel that they are faced with an "existential threat" since US President Donald Trump entered office. The unspecified Iranian official said that "we have never been this vulnerable, and it may be our last change to obtain [a nuclear weapon] before its too late." The official added that the Khamenei's decisions to forbid nuclear weapons and negotiations with the United States is "driving the regime toward collapse."[2] The official claimed that Iran has been "just a few button presses away from building a nuclear weapon for some time now."[3] This article follows the New York Times reporting that Iranian scientists are exploring how to build a crude nuclear weapon quickly.[4] These reports are consistent with CTP-ISW assessment that Iran has restarted its nuclear weapons research but has not yet made a deliberate effort to build a weapon.
Khamenei's Foreign Affairs Advisor Kamal Kharrazi previously told the Financial Times in July 2024 that Iran was open to pursuing nuclear weaponization if faced with "an existential threat."[5] Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi alluded to the "heated debate" on whether to build a nuclear weapon on January 28, when Araghchi threatened pursuing one if the E3 triggered snapback sanctions before October 2025.[6]

And if Trump decides to use our military against Iran...will any of our old allies stand with us?

Trump is busy fanning the preconditions for war, while still proclaiming the fiction that he’s a man of peace and will not get us involved in foreign wars.
Horseshit.

https://thebulletin.org/2025/01/how-quickly-could-...How quickly could Iran make an atomic bomb once it has acquired enough weapons-grade uranium? Some nuclear experts argue it would take Iran anywhere between several months to up to a year. But China’s experience shows that Tehran could build a bomb much faster—in as little as three to five weeks.

Mist likely - war.
NeoConLiberals slipped in a cute executive order already.
If it happens, I hope Iran retaliates directly or indirectly to France and Germany.

They've been "making progress" for years while the international community sat with its thumb up its butt.
For reasons that I'll never fathom there has been a strain of US politician that seems to think it can make a deal with the Mullahs. Barack Obama ushered in 12 out of the last 16 years of virtual appeasement - where's that gotten anyone?
BTW the thing to be concerned with in addition to The Bomb is the delivery mechanism. What are Iran's ballistic missile programs like?

They are are not much of an ally if they don't. We finally have a President who will call them out for it. They are certainly free to make their own decisions in the spirit of every country puts its own interests first. However, their belief in their policy should be strong enough to defend their policy on the world stage.

I am sure our satellites are carefully monitoring the situation. And if 3-5 weeks is now or ever is in range, we have plenty of MOABs and other bunker busting ordinance that can be deployed in a matter of hours, well within the 3 week threat window. Trump as made it clear, no nukes for you. It is not an idle threat like they got used to under Biden.

Certainly Israel will approve. Perhaps Trump will merely greenlight Bebe to go ahead with his plans to take out Iran's nuclear sites.

Back on the Fool I recall debating Obama's Iran deal with many of these same folks who were all IN FAVOR of letting Iran do its thing under the auspices of his nuke deal. When it was pointed out that Obama's deal was silent about Iran's missile programs and that perhaps something could be asked for there the left wing response was "bbbut these are separate issues".
Thus proving forever why you don't want certain mindsets negotiating critical national security anything.
