Thanks for your note and for reading the newsletter.
By my calculations, Buffett has donated a total of 411,554,214 Class B shares (post-split) to the Gates Foundation and to the four family foundations since 2006.
The current market value of those shares is around $202 billion.
We don't know exactly how many shares have been sold by the foundations or when, but generally recipients don't hold onto donated stock for very long.
Best,
Alex Crippin

In 2006 I suggested that the Buffett donation agreement should be amended to include a provision that Brk would have the, right of first refusal, to buy all or a portion of Gates Foundation sales. Obviously Brk should have also authorized a buyback, at material discounts to IV in 2006 as well, as I suggested at that time. I wonder where brkb would be trading today if Brk had bought back all Gates foundation sales to date? Oh well, I do know those unforced errors cost me a lot of money. Some day someone might ask Buffett what he was thinking back then, we know Becky will never ask him.

Just because somebody doesn't do something YOU think would have been a good idea doesn't mean it was an error, unforced or not.
Lots of people disagree about that strategy, presumably including Mr Buffett.

Good morning old bud, have you become an authorized Buffett spokesman? Are you saying that if Buffett was asked today, if he should have authorized a buyback at material discounts to IV in 2006, or soon thereafter, Buffett would say, no way, his buyback strategy and timing was perfect? Seriously?
