Energy Secretary Chris Wright will attend the opening of the first rare earth mine in the United States in more than 70 years.

Taking place on July 11 at Ramaco’s iCAM Technology Center in Ranchester, Wyoming, the event celebrating the Brook Mine Carbon Ore Rare Earth project will host speakers from the national and state levels, according to a press release.

(Just kidding - but it would be obvious that if they've reached the point of groundbreaking today, they made the decision to open the mine quite some time ago. Turns out that it's been in process for about two years).

Very true! This one doesn't happen without some planning.
I think the rare earth find was them exploring on what had been a coal mine before...I need to double check that.

I think the rare earth find was them exploring on what had been a coal mine before...I need to double check that.

That's correct. They found those deposits in connection with their other operations. It was mentioned in the press release from two years ago, when they announced that they were opening the rare earth mine.

Flour Corporation designed a pilot plant for it that will open mid 2026, and from the pilot plant will come a larger processing plant later. Flour has a good reputation.
