In due time, NYC is going to have much more affordable rents.
You'll rent a 2bed/2bath place in a decent area of NYC for the same price you can in some suburb of Atlanta or Detroit.
Can't wait!!!!!

Was showing a group of younger adults a bit about interest rates. They all live in apartments and were saying at least they didn't have to worry about interest rates. They just paid rent!
I pointed out that their landlords have mortgages and that the way it works is...you make the tenant pay. They assumed the landlord just absorbed any extra cost. Nope, I said: they pass it down to the renter(s). The other option is to sell the apartment building to a condo developer if they can't stay afloat on the mortgage payments for it.
It's astonishing how little financial literacy there is around here.

Hey like mamdani says just impose rent control all over the place and FORCE landlords to absorb all the cost increases.
That always works out right?

Liberals want more and more Americans having hte mentality of their "other" constituency. You know, one in the city. High interest. Late feees. Vanity purchases. Failure. Dependency. Poverty.
And then their Woke Banks get to college said interest and fees.
They did it to *one* demographic well -- now, they're coming for the rest and they will succeed.
I remember way back when on TMF - I spoke about how bad culture leads to *this* cohor growing and how businesses can thrive on it. I talked about "Credit Acceptance Corporation" --- feel free to look at their performance from the late 90's till now.
Some of us remember the ol' days when it started......

Heh. They LITERALLY teach the failure of New York City's rent control program in every Econ 101 class. libs don't take that one.

Absolutely true.
Same thing happens with tariffs- which of course is likewise inflationary.
Of course Trump can always remove Jerome Powell, put in a lackey to keep interest rates artificially low……. And blow up the whole financial system.
So there’s that option

just impose rent control all over the place and FORCE landlords to absorb all the cost increases. ~MARCOSounds exactly like Trumps Tariff plan to me...
"Trump warns America’s businesses: Eat my tariffs, or pay the price!"

Mamdani is thinking outside of the box and trying different things. He is flexible and if something doesn't get the result he wants,
he has shown a willingness to change course. This is very confounding to the MAGA cult who tend to be very doctrinaire and inflexible in their thinking patterns.
So, let's see what happens and then everyone can judge for themselves whether the Mamdani juice was worth the squeeze.
