Food assistance in Michigan: SNAP benefits to stop in November due to federal shutdown

The state received word from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service directing MDHHS to hold the food assistance benefits, known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The federal government, in its communication, indicated that because of the "ongoing federal government funding lapse, there may be limited availability of funds" to pay November SNAP benefits for about 42 million people across the country, according to a news release from MDHHS. In Michigan, nearly 13% of households, or roughly 1.4 million people, receive the benefits.

According to the net sifter, 22M receive ACA subsidies. 41.7M receive SNAP benefits.

AI Overview
No, SNAP benefits have not been stopped in past government shutdowns, although they have been delayed or threatened. In previous shutdowns, such as the 2018-2019 one, the USDA dispersed benefits early and Congress provided emergency funding to ensure payments continued, according to The News-Press.

Past shutdowns:
During the 2018-2019 shutdown, the USDA made February SNAP benefits available at the end of January, and Congress passed funding for March, says The News-Press.

Contingency funding:
The USDA typically uses carryover and reserve funds to keep the program running during a shutdown for a limited time, notes NPR and The Hill.

They could SUCCESSFULLY fight both hills. Extract pounds of flesh.

Rather, it's "Epstein"! "Demolition"!
