I feel that for SheepleIllegalImmigration, these South Koreans were the least of our worries. I do like seeing many of hre Bad Hombres bring deported even though the method is poor, and - i am stll sure that bad Sheeple Culture means there wiwll be abuse at detention centers and it will be strageically exposed one day soon.

Anyhow, South Korea is a lovely place. I wonder why these workers wanted to come to Evil America.

Silver lining - at least this plant is EV related.

Fossil Fuels rule longer now, thanks to Sheeple Conceit and the ensuing election results -

Remember how PA libs used to scream about how Republicans didn’t want to hold corporate America accountable for hiring illegals and driving wages down?

Lol. another “principle” of theirs vacated. Completely.

They can't stand this because it's Trump doing it.

And it's not a purely American company paying the price.

Remember - they were and are the anti american side. Only for now they are are waving the flag

Saddens them that some rapists and killers are gone. And in this case almost 500 illegals from a "big corporation"

Because they are experienced in the battery systems that LG is installing in the plant? Because there is no language barrier between the workers and the engineers?

One piece I saw said the entire kerfuffle is because the Koreans were here on tourist visas, not work visas.

LG and Hyundai are both Korean companies, not USian. It wasn't that long ago that #43 organized some "enforcement theater" raiding a couple Swift packing plants. iirc, Swift was a US company at the time of the raids, but it was bought, in 2007, by a Brazilian company.

And the plant is being built in the US.

To a lot of people, that would not make a difference, because the company is still foreign.

I had coworkers that would tell you, with a straight face, that US built, foreign brand, cars, were just as bad as imports, because "all the money goes to Tokyo". One of those luminaries was the company's CFO. He insisted that his Swedish built Saab was American, because "all the money goes to GM". The moment GM sold Saab, he couldn't wait for the lease to run out, because the car was now foreign. Another coworker insisted her Mexican built Ford Fusion was American because "all the money goes to Ford". But, they would tell you, with a straight face, than an Ohio built Honda, 70% North American content, was foreign, because "all the money goes to Tokyo".

That company did a lot of car hauling for Chrysler. I never challenged what passed for "logic" in their minds, by suggesting they shun Chrysler, after it was bought by Fiat, because "all the money is going to Turin".

Yes people are goofy.

Like the whining racists so against high tech visas.

Hey, the people are here. They're living in America making money in America paying taxes in america.

No biggie.

Issue a million more a year.

Oddly, not a big battle cry from the pro immigrant Left.

Either way, the market is taking care of this one.....

Trump just pissed off S Korea who made a $150 billion commitment to invest in the USA. Now we have a pause in a new plant. Ho well will this go over? Remember Taiwan.

No, he didn't.
A number of them crossed the border illegally. Some others overstayed their visas. There's no universe where arresting people who've broken laws constitutes some kind of kerfuffle on the scale you're mentioning.

In the Liberal Blame America First, give aid and comfort to enemy world: It's not ok for America to enforce border laws but it's ok for everybody else.

The *only* time Libeals pretend to care is "Putin!" and its only because they dont like "Putin!" and it's Europe'a ass on the line.

otherwise, all countries can try to secure themselves, advance their causes. Just not the united states.

I think you need to come to terms that you have reads of situations that are at odds with reality.

SNIP South Koreans feel betrayed by workforce detentions at Georgia Hyundai plant AP

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea’s foreign minister departed for the U.S. on Monday to finalize steps for the return of several hundred South Korean workers detained in a massive immigration raid in Georgia, a spectacle that has caused confusion, shock and a sense of betrayal among many in the U.S.-allied nation.

The Sept. 4 raid on a battery factory under construction at a sprawling Hyundai auto plant resulted in the detainment of 475 workers, more than 300 them South Koreans. Some were shown being shackled with chains around their hands, ankles and waists in video released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. SNIP

ICE raids Georgia Hyundai battery plant, sparking firestorm with South Korea – what to know
South Korean foreign minister travels to US to repatriate detained nationals from Georgia facility FOX

SNIP: Federal agents detained nearly 500 workers during an immigration raid at a Hyundai battery plant construction site near Savannah, Georgia — an operation that has rattled U.S.–South Korea relations and drawn scrutiny regarding how America staffs its biggest industrial projects.

About 475 workers at the battery plant’s construction site were detained on Sept. 4 under suspicion of being in the U.S. illegally, with at least 300 reportedly hailing from the democratic half of the Korean peninsula – which is also a top U.S. ally and key Asian partner.SNIP

It's the same problem we have with the Taiwanese coming over to set up a CHIP factory. We don't have the skilled workers. So we need to work with them, not do this. How to work with them? There's some commentary in the FOX piece on how to do that. And yes, they are pissed off, denial is not a river in Egypt.

From the article Lambo posted a link to

"When you are sending people for factories involving semiconductors or electric batteries, you need people on the floor who know what they’re doing," Kim said, as the paper reported South Korea had dealt with roadblocks pertaining to a limit on popular H1-B and other visa types.

That is what I suspected. The Koreans were here on tourist visas, because they could not get work visas.

Recall, a few months ago, Trump and Musk were praising H-1B visas. The base had an apoplectic fit at the idea of any foreigners being allowed in, for any reason.

From last January:

Trouble in Trumpworld over H-1B visas makes for strange bedfellows

While Elon Musk, a close ally of the president-elect, has argued the visas are essential for hundreds of companies at the heart of American industry, Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist, has branded the H-1B program a “total and complete scam” that deprives American workers.

Trump backed Musk over Bannon, declaring himself to be a “believer” in H-1Bs after using them “many times” in his businesses. But this fight is not over: Bannon is demanding the “complete and total elimination” of the scheme, and Musk has declared he would “go to war” to defend it.

Another case of people who know how to do it legally, want to do it legally, but the US won't let them do it legally.

I think you need to come to terms that you won't be taken seriously until you learn to debate and exchange ideas rather than lobbing poo at other posters.

Tell me. If I rolled up to South Korea on a boat or flew in and just started living and working there, would I expect a teddy bear and some roses if I were to get caught? Or might I run afoul of their immigration authorities?

It never ceases to amaze me how you people really don't understand that the United States has these things called "laws".

Some of the authoritarian cruelty is driven by ideology, and some of it is driven by sheer incompetence. It’s almost impossible to distinguish between the two.

Perhaps Charlie Sykes’ comment says it best:

Remember that they are clowns…… but clowns with flame throwers.

More that many characteristics, this one brands Trump and his gaggle of suck-ups as tyrants.

Aided and abetted by a USSC that allows them to continue their rampage via the “shadow docket”.

No explanation for their reasoning- leaving us to suspect that they know their reasoning is mere acquiescence to the dictator. Certainly not constitutional.

grumbing by local gop that this is glaringly bad even for a redneck economy seems to have evaporated faster than moonshine on a summer day.

it is amusing to see non-local gop cheering on this taxpayer-paid capture of specialty skilled stem, but by MAGA definition, criminal foreigners snacking on pets.
their state is next.

Not just any workers. Foreign workers.

And this isn't stupidity. It is a very deliberate choice driven by the likes of Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon.

For the clueless among us, here's what actually happened:

1. South Korean Visa applicants went to the U.S. Department of State for approval to work at the Hyundai plant.

1a. The State Department said, "Sure, no problem."

2. The South Korean Visa applicants then went to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to seek entry into the country to work at the Hyundai plant.

2a. Approval was granted and the South Koreans worked here as approved.

3. ICE said, "No f*cking way. We have a mandate to remove you motherf*cking lawbreakers -- we gotta' make a splash and make the evening news and get those deportation numbers up -- and we're arresting you without translators, without warning, despite your being cleared by both the State Department and CBP."

4, South Korea said "WTF?"

Hey, too bad they weren't Russians. Trumpedo would have had ICE kissing their asses on Main Street.
