I saw that guy being interviewed. He said it exactly like quoted above.

Aside from that, there are reports of some activity, 2 or 3 men, on that roof in the minutes leading up to the actual shooting.

You want a conspiracy theory, just borrow the analogy from the Kennedy assassination. Here, you have the patsy, Thomas Crooks, filing the role of Lee Harvey Oswald. Crooks gets the shot off and then is immediately and permanently silenced by CIA sharpshooters staged on the roofs of two opposing buildings. BTW, where they clearly could see that rooftop before any shooting took place and could have easily taken out the shooter at the mere sight of the rifle, but didn't? Another good question.

Not really that hard to figure out. Security at these things is handled by several layers of law enforcement. There are local cops, often handling things like traffic control and perimeter crowd control, there are state cops doing whatever they do. There’s Secret Service, FBI and other state and federal agencies involved, politicians or other dignitaries with their own security details, local EMS and similar - it’s not like every person there knows what ever other person is doing. They see a guy on a roof, even with a rifle, they probably asssume it’s a law enforcement sniper maybe.

I’m not complaining that it’s chaos, but every venue is different, it’s always a “once-and-done” and on to the next, with different people, different local officials, and do it all over again. I cut them a bit of slack for not instantly recognizing that this is a bad guy with a gun instead of a good guy with a gun.

That’s the funny thing. It’s hard to tell, sometimes. I see a guy walking thru WalMart with an AR-15 strapped to his back. How do I know?

Sure you might think so. But if you’re one of those snipers are you going to take out somebody on a roof because they might be up to no good, or do you think “Well, I didn’t hear about that one, so I’ll watch…”

I can’t imagine shooting someone and then finding it it was someone in law enforcement and you didn’t hear about a last minute change because somebody belatedly found a different vantage point. At the instant he fires, of course, then you know. But by then, he’s already fired.

That roof was only 130 yards from the podium and there was no barrier to access it. There should have been somebody standing on it at a minimum.

This was a massive fail of security across the board. Heads should be rolling.

I’m going to stick my neck out and say that virtually every event for Biden, Trump, the worm brain guy, Obama, Bush, Clinton - has a security hole somewhere. But nothing newsworthy happens because the hole isn’t found by someone wanting to cause harm, or the hole is noticed and closed while the event is underway.

Most of the time, the security hole is going to be fairly small and minor. Rarely, they are significant. Even rarer, they sigificant enough to cause a serious issue like this.

I don’t let them off the hook for this error, but neither am I going to ask for heads to roll immediately. That is for the investigation to determine. Then the right heads can roll if that is necessary.

I don't think so. The shooter is known and dead. Rumors will fly... but the conspiracy theories could go on for years. Let us know what you hear on conspiracy theories.

These is more than just the identity and fate of the shooter. It has to do with the effectiveness of the Secret Service. I would like to know who was responsible for covering that roof and why the snipers did not take pre-emptive action. There may have been a reason, maybe a good one, I want to hear it.

Again, I don't think that will go on for years. I would guess by the end of March at the latest.
