The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Indeed, each side has their Taliban and in the past.... what I considered my side - the Right - was even delicious gift after gift from the Lefty Taliban whether it was redistribution, vilification of the pioneer and dreamer spirit, and now, most recently - they've deployed TransQaeda do turn rather Liberal school districts into Conservative --- not Conservative, but slightly Trailer Parkish school boards. I've seen it upfront - the district I'm in is one of the best in the state, top 10% in the country.... and all the 401Ker's with their organics and yogas and non union luxury cars enjoy life daily --- yet their school board is now MAGA and banning books lol.

But then the Righty Taliban stepped in it. Instead of just using it for fundraising and get out the vote, they actually ended ROE v WADE and in 2022 - despite people blaming Trump - it was the Righty Taliban's ROE victory that brought Liberal voters out. Not only that, it caused some RED states to openly declare they wanted access to abortion - after all, many Red States despite "God! Values!" have their healthy share of unwanted pregnancies and STDs. Yes, even Wade and Kayleigh want abortion rights it turns out.

If the Righty Taliban forces their nominee to support this Roe takedown - it will hinder the nominee in a year when the GOP nominee should win - rather easily. Years ago when I cared - on TMF I used to nicely tell the Repubs that certain issues, they have to cede. I listed Gay Marriage, slavishness to Israel and World Trade and true to form, they cried "My ideals!" "My principles!" "My Convictions!" -- and Obama won in 2012 when he was beatable. And here we are today - the "My ideals!" Repubs are all Trumpy on Trade - when some of us were since the 90's. Young Repubs are fine with Gay Marriage - too bad they lost younger voters in 2012....

Another issue "my side" needs to get onboard with - OBAMACARE. It's law. It's the way of the world. Self interest? SURE - I milk the MAX subsidy out of it. As I stated years ago my goal was to contribute ZILCH and MILK all I can - and I do so every single day now. Anyhow, my own laughter aside- I feel the Affordable Care Act can cook the Right.

DeSantis won Florida by 1 million votes. However.....3,000,000 people in his state are on ACA. If Democrats continuously dare Republicans to make "repeal ACA" an issue - AND clearly, in a non-faculty-lounge-way communicate to voters what that means to them - it's a sleeper winning issue.

I said it to Conservatives on TMF and I say it again: GET BEHIND THE ACA. Instead of the "Repeal!" slogan bullcrap, accept that now, Jesus's people even with asthma or Crohn's - can buy insurance. The Devil can't turn them down anymore. Be PART of ACA - your free market and competition instincts would be useful towards continuously taking and improving this thing.

BTW - Conservatives should have, and STILL should DEMAND THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE. All that means is healthy young Liberals would have to pay into the premium pool, buy one less Smartphone and Organic Burrito.....and the money would end up helping people in Alabama, Kentucky, etc.

If Repubs don't do it - Democrats should really ,really make this a fiery issue.

Heck I'd send notices to all ACA recipients, somberly telling them to make other arrangements, should the law be repealed.
