Absolutely true but again, it's important to look at the bigger staffing picture. It's not unheard of for a politician to reach higher office with poor people-reading skills and little or no empathy. However, it's pretty hard to win statewide or national office without employing someone on your staff or having someone in your inner circle who can act as your resident empath to prevent the REALLY tone deaf stuff from leaving your mouth or going out under your signature.

The fact that Trump's official response stated that "God prevented the unthinkable from happening" confirms Trump is literally unable to contemplate the perspective of understand the suffering of any other human being around him, even those that DIE in close proximity to him from bullets meant for him. But it also indicates there is not only NO ONE in his entire circle that HAS the accumen to be that "chargé d'empath", there is NO ONE in his entire circle even smart enough to recognize the NEED for one, even for the most crass, cynical reason.

THAT's saying something about how far off the spectrum the people willingly entering the Trump sphere are. Imagine an entire Administration of like minded individuals, hand-selected and loyalty-checked managing the government's response after a natural disaster, a terrorist event, etc.
