This is a good video of how the GPP transformed China from one of the world's poorest countries in 1950 to the world's largest economy today.
https://youtu.be/BT7Th2aV0wM
What I like is the strong motivation of the Chinese to build industry as a necessary first step to social development (improvement of life) and the political oppression of the Chinese by the United States, Europe and Japan before 1950. I liked the way he explained that way.
I didn't know that we invaded China in the early 20th century - until I saw this video. We demanded higher reparations than their economy could produce. It reminds us of what Britain did to Germany before World War II to provoke German political reprisals. This presentation revealed many facts about China that are not often read in our own stories.
Given its global significance, I think it's important to understand it from their perspective.

Good ol' Ben Norton, one of the key players in Grayzone, an apologist outlet for the Russian and PRC governments.

That US invasion of China:

Operation Beleaguer was the codename for the United States Marine Corps' occupation of northeastern China's Hebei and Shandong provinces from 1945 until 1949. The Marines were tasked with overseeing the repatriation of more than 600,000 Japanese and Koreans that remained in China at the end of World War II. During the four-year occupation, American forces engaged in several skirmishes with the People's Liberation Army while successfully evacuating thousands of foreign nationals. The United States Government attempted to mediate a peace treaty between the opposing Nationalist and Communist factions but was unsuccessful. The Marines departed Northern China in June 1949 a few months before the communists won victory in the Chinese Civil War and took control of mainland China.

That does not contradict what Ben Norton reported about the interference in China. Their country was not truly independent at that time as it is today but being politically interfered with by US, Japan, and Europe. Without their social revolution in 1950 China would not have been able to liberate itself from those interferences and develop industrially to the colossal extend they achieved between 1950 and the 1990s. The early part of their development was necessary to set them up sufficiently for the market openings that occurred later during the 2000s which is when we took great notice because as they had advanced their agriculture and moved to the industrial development phase, we could now utilize their labor. Recently they eliminated extreme poverty which other large such as Indonesia and India cannot so whilst taking a popularly vote path with minimal political participation more similar to our own system. I don't see why we are continually attacking China for being incredibly successful. I would have thought we would be praising it and trying to learn from them.
My post was not to focus on comparing USA present relative decline and China's rise but rather just try to report someone of economic signifiant on this Macroeconomic Trends board.
I encourage you to listen to the whole presentation. There are a lot of good details and some ideas may be new. The US/Europe/Japan intervened in China which they eventually overcame was only an initial success and a necessary but not sufficient condition for their success that followed.
