On that subject, there's an interesting thing about the human condition for the very old.
If you're an adult, your odds of dying in the next year rise each year that you get older.
...until you're in your 90s. Then, rather strangely, the risk stops rising.
It is not at all what you'd expect from a bell curve graph of ages at death.
In round numbers, a 105 year old is as likely to make it to 106 as a 95 year old's chances of making it to 96.
The chances of death in the next year for the super-old are still quite large, say 1 in 3, but at least they stop getting worse each year.
The outliers of human longevity are implausibly large outliers...a lot of standard deviations.
The first trick is managing to make it to your 90s.
