My gut wonders if the new guy will empty the shelves of any/all bad news and set lower expectations for his tenure. That might offer a knee jerk decline from Mr. Market, and for those with a longer term investment conviction, it could offer a nibbling opportunity.
If, on the other hand numbers are positive we may have seen the bottom for now and a climb back to something more normal could be underway.
For me, my slow position building sits at 1.5% of portfolio and is underwater by 15%. I'm itching to get it to a full 4-5%. Patience...I tell myself ;)
So, i'll probably roll the dice and acquire just few shares prior to earnings to scratch the itch, no harm in that. If earnings are green, let 'er ride. If earnings are yellow or red, keep building toward that 4-5%.
This all makes sense, but it makes so much sense, I wonder whether it might not be already baked into the price? If it were, a ‘kitchen sink’ quarter that was bad, but not too too bad might make it really take off.
So I prefer to hold my 3% stake before the announcement. But if the price really does drop, I might be tempted to go to 4-5% like you.
