I really didn't expect this. The convict had a lead in the polls, the Dems were scrambling after an apparently poor debate showing by Biden, and more scrambling when Harris took over after Biden said he was done. I was expecting a slam-dunk for the Reps. But, no. At least four states are now "in play" with Harris, where previously they were not with Biden.

One key state is probably NC:
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4831547-kama...

She's now leading in AZ, and made it competitive in GA and NV.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/17/us/elections/ka...

I was never going to vote for the convict, but I also was never going to stay home. Even if it were a losing cause, I would have submitted my ballot. Somehow, Harris has made it a race again.

The power of universally adoring coverage from the media in action.
If you doubt that, go revisit how well she did in 2019.

Yes, let's do that!

She was up against a strong slate of Democrat candidates, with legitimate track records and capable of speaking intelligently and knowledgeably on a wide range of issues. (Or maybe they just had better laughs?)

Her opponents did not include any 34-time convicted felons, convicted rapists, no one who tried to incite a mob to violently overturn an election so they could stay in power, no one who called soldiers killed fighting for our country "losers and suckers", no one so juvenile that they refused to call her by her right name, no one whining about her ethnicity, no one who had their charitable foundation shut down for misusing its funds on themselves, and on and on and on.... And that's among a whole slate of a dozen or so candidates, not all rolled into one candidate.

Yes, those were the days! Actual candidates, not reality TV stars who don't give a hoot about anything but themselves but are capable of putting on a show that appeals to a lot of people, in the pursuit of seeing just how much power and fame they can accumulate.

Biden was the guy in 2020. No one really gave him any competition.

I suspect it is relief that they can -with a clear conscience- vote against the convict. Voting for Biden was going to be a tepid experience (I still would have done it).

Just saw a campaign sign today: Arizona Republicans for Harris. They are putting country above party, as it should be.

The convict is despised, even by some of his own party. Another candidate probably would have walked away with AZ, but not the convict. He may actually lose the state.

You're not addressing the statement.
The race is close because Harris is avoiding answering questions and attempting to hide her stances. The media is playing along.

Pretty much the same as Trump did in 2012, when he announced he would not seek the nomination after having soft-campaigned for it for several months.

On May 16, 2011, Trump announced he would not run for president in the 2012 election, putting an end to what he described as "unofficially campaigning". In February 2012, Trump endorsed Mitt Romney for president. Trump's presidential ambitions were generally not taken seriously at the time.

Third option: you have no idea what you’re talking about.

You are right, it was very unexpected. I didn't hope for more than just a good showing - and retained other posts in the legislature. I remember when Albaby laid it out for us. The best possible outcome was for Kamala to run, so we've been very fortunate.

"You're not addressing the statement.

- Dope

No one projects like a MAGA bot. It is Trump who is trying to hide his stances on abortion, Project 2025, and radically remaking the federal government. Trump knows the GOP's position on abortion is unpopular, he knows radically remaking the federal government is unpopular, he knows all of the GOP plans with Project 2025 is unpopular. So he is pretending that his stances are different than what would really happen under a Trump administration.

Besides, Harris doesn't really have to formulate any policies. All she has to do is talk about hope and the future and not going back to the past and she will win.

I know you are a member of the cult so you really don't understand just how unpopular Trump really is. There are people who will literally vote for a dead body before voting for Trump. These are not radical leftists I am talking about, these are moderates, independents, and even some Republicans who value country over party. Almost any candidate is going to be able to beat Trump just by not being a corrupt asshole who constantly threatens the institutions that make the country great. Trump is extremely unpopular outside of his cult.

Besides, there is absolutely no reason for Harris to talk about detailed tax policies and such because it doesn't matter what her stances are. At minimum, any tax policy is going to have to pass both the Senate and House that will be very close and very partisan. So why should Harris come up with any specifics when they are meaningless and can only be used against her? That would be a Project 2025 level of stupidity.

So instead she just needs to say things like she will fight for the middle class and if pushed for specifics she can say she won't raise taxes on those making less than $200,000 and push for the childhood tax credit. If that is what it takes for her to win, why shouldn't she do it?

Hmmm. Snark instead of admitting that Kamala bombed as a candidate in 2019.

Oh, well!

I'm not addressing your statement because it is nonsense. The media doesn't "play along" anymore. Long gone are the days when a POTUS (or candidate) has polio, and no one knows because the media keeps it quiet. (for example)

Wow, okay.

This is freaking hilarious. Are you Stephen Colbert in disguise? He thinks CNN and others play it right down the middle also.

And just to hammer the point home: yes, the media plays along.

https://x.com/greg_price11/status/1825547779588145...

Kamala surrogate says that she doesn’t need to release details of her policy proposals because “they can be picked apart” and that instead she “trusts journalists” to explain them to people.

Wake up. You people are being propagandized.

The full quote:
In fact, I think Vice President Harris has been incredibly brave to roll out an ambitions economic agenda, because we all know how this works. The more details you share, the more your policies are going to get picked apart. But she's saying, I trust the American people, I trust the journalists to explain these policies and our values to folks. And I think when that happens, that will be successful for Democrats.

It's not up to Harris to explain anything; her Praetorian Guard will Mediasplain it to the unwashed masses.
