Bring a community here

Most people here belong to somewhere else as well — an investing forum, a mailing list that has run for years, a club that meets, a group somewhere that is quietly dying. If one of those could have a home, it can have one here.

If you simply want a board added — a company nobody covers, a subject worth its own room — this is not the page. Ask on Any Missing Board Requested Here and it is usually just done. That is the ordinary way boards get added and it works.

What this page is for is different. It is for a group of people who already talk to each other somewhere, and who need somewhere better. They arrive together, under their own name, with their own moderator — and Shrewd'm gains readers rather than dividing the ones it has.

What is different here is not the software. Discord and the rest will host a group perfectly well, and several of them do it better than we do. What they cannot do is put a community inside a readership. A new server elsewhere starts with an audience of nobody and usually stays there. A board here starts amongst hundreds of active readers — not social-media rapid-fire-likers, but curious people reading carefully and writing at length — and its posts are eligible for the same Best Of lists and the same The Shrewd'm Weekly as everybody else's from the first day.

That is not a promise that people will read you. It is a promise that there are people who might.

The most useful thing you can do

You probably do not need to set anything up yourself. If a community you belong to is closing or fading, the person to act is whoever organises it — and they will listen to you, a member of their own group, in a way they would never listen to a website they have not heard of.

And if you are the organiser, or the group has nobody in that role, you can set it up yourself below.

And if it does not suit you, you take your writing and go. Your posts are yours, we will hand them back in a plain file whenever you ask, and nobody will try to talk you out of it. This is a place to write, not a contract.

Setting one up yourself. Join, write a few posts on the boards that interest you, and the form appears on this page. Somebody who has written here understands the place they are shaping a corner of.

The form asks where the community meets today. That one question is the whole of the qualification — this is for groups that already exist, not for new rooms.
