Following up on an earlier post of mine-

Authoritarian governments go after the teachers and the artists

This is nothing new. In fact, it is an old, old story. Stalin banned American jazz. Hitler banned art that challenged the idea of Nordic racial superiority

Freedom of expression is anathema to these guys. They not only disappear people. They disappear art and unapproved ideas.

For all of their animus toward Hollywood, they take the matter of art very seriously, and will use the apparatus of the state to smash artistic expression that doesn’t accord with their approved ideological purity.
