You're making the assumption that there will be free and fair elections by then.
We only have to hold out for two years. Based on the last two weeks, I expect a major shift in the 2026 election, as people become disillusioned. Chaos, endless lawsuits, inflation, recession...some combination of those things will remind people of the last time, and we should get a significant shift (assuming enough senate seats are up for grabs in 2026).
I'm certain he and Musk will try, but I don't think they can dismantle everything to the point that we don't have elections in two years.
