James Clyburn Rips El-Sayed’s Rallies for Lack of Diversity
“Democratic Party elder and prior presidential kingmaker Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) jabbed at progressive U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed on Wednesday, calling out the lack of Black Democrats at his events,” Mediaite reports.
Said Clyburn: “I saw a picture that concerned me from the rally. I didn’t see a single person that looks like me. That tells me all I need to know.”politicalwire.com - James clyburn rips el sayeds rallies for lack of diversityEl-Sayed Faces Headwinds as Black Democrats and Jewish Voters Break Away
Recent polling shows competitor Rep. Haley Stevens dominating among Black Democratic voters, leading El-Sayed by almost 46 points. Meanwhile, El-Sayed performs better among white Democrats, particularly progressives.
The polling suggests El-Sayed’s challenge with Black Democrats extends beyond vote choice to basic perceptions. Among Black Democratic primary voters, just 25.2% view him favorably, while 26.5% view him unfavorably. Another 26.5% have no opinion of him, and 21.9% say they’ve never heard of him. By comparison, Haley Stevens posts a 51.0% favorable rating among Black Democrats, with 24.5% unfavorable, giving her a much stronger standing with one of the Democratic Party’s most important voting blocs.michigannewssource.com - El sayed faces headwinds as black democrats and jewish voters break awayInteresting that the negatives between the two are almost even, but Stevens had a higher favorable rating, while many people don't know about El-Sayed.
And there were the third party ads, running constantly, claiming El-Sayd "disrespects women", another tribe being pandered to. And the Stevens ad where she was complaining about how people complain about how she speaks, claiming criticizing her is criticizing all the residents of the state...pandering to another tribe.
As you said, a lot of tribal poo slinging, little policy discussion. Of course, saying anything about policy might upset a group being pandered to that an actual policy might not work that well for. Stevens kept running ads claiming she was the most effective Dem in the Michigan delegation to the House, but not one word about what she had actually done. Just that video clip from years ago, of Obama saying she was head of staff in his car company bailout program.
AIPAC spent some $37M on the Stevens campaign. If she had won yesterday, then it would not matter if she or Rogers won in November, because AIPAC would win either way. Wonder what heights the AIPAC money fountain will reach, in support of Rogers, in November? If they try really, really hard, they might find a 12th cousin, 18 times removed, of El-Sayid, they can claim is a "terrorist"?
