With all that's going on, I've decided to take a break from reading Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance and Olga Lautman (author of the Trump Tyranny Tracker). I just can't take knowing the full extent of the Trump admin's depravities, depredations and destruction directed at the Constitution, the American system of government and the world order. I'll "brush up" on the latest from the good people here, but that's it.

Up until today I still had some optimism that America would survive Trump. But no more. Will there even be valid mid-term elections in 2026? Will Trump EO-away the election in 2028 as "unnecessary" and just stay in power, Putin style? I can't honestly say these things are impossible any more.

And I'm too old and frail - I'm no wzambon, that's for sure! - that much as as I'd like to, I can't even "take to the streets" or "take up arms in rebellion" in defense of Liberty. (*) But I think that's what it will actually take to put an end to this. And it has to happen very soon or all will be lost. Another pipe-dream possibility is that there are a few closet honorable republicans left in Congress who finally come to their senses and vote for a dem-sponsored bill of impeachment of both Trump and Vance, and then threaten to take out next-in-line Rubio unless he also comes to his senses.

Nothing much cheers me up these days, and I find myself darkly hoping for that asteroid to just end the human race, or at least for another much more deadly novel virus to arise and send us all back to the dark ages where MAGA longs to be.

Yes, it is depressing.

The little town I live in is about evenly divided between right and left. But the Trumper/MAGA crowd shows no sign of any regret for their support of the destruction of American political values. They celebrate it.

Unless the trend is reversed, I see our country becoming much more like Putin's Russia, a kleptocratic autocracy with all power and wealth in the hands of a corrupt leader and his equally corrupt oligarch supporters. It is quite clear that that is the model Trump admires and desires to emulate.

Time to volunteer- in either political campaigns or agencies and social service organizations that have lost funding

Time to talk to our friends

Time to be decent human beings

And having worked all those years, we even have a few shekels to donate to the many good causes out there that need our support.

Parts of what's happening to give me fear or sadness.

I think you people still have time. I maintain that the 2020's are your good ol' days.

A few things need to happen for punishment to truly get nasty and I don't mean your little shitty ass rights and freedoms. That's a done deal, those are MINE. The few things I have to be patient on:

*Other economies, partially thanks to Liberals giving away American Knowhow --are rising. Their economies are growing organically and their middle class demographics are awesome *but* it's never a straight line going up. Pitfalls, crashes, etc have yet to be absorbed.

*America's energy and resources are awesome and for now, Stalinist Liberals have been rejected and we're allowed to use said resources for American advantage. Maybe one day, when the Left is in charge that might change and that will also contribute to PUNISHMENT.

*Employment. You're still at close to full employment. I'm not sure how the A/I worker displacement will go. I don't think it'll be extreme in that it won't relegate a majority of workers useless, BUT it won't progress without SOME displacement.

I envision swaths of unemployed Americans. Many, thanks to bad culture without the grounding, without the family structure to persevere thru that. I envision them angry, and armed and easily influenced by domestic and foreign demagogues (sound familiar?). Not only will that mean mayhem and deserved violence and deserved FEAR, it means you'll have MORE drain to your social programs, and FEWER taxpayers---I'm hitting doubles and triples with this one!

Can this be overcome? Sure. But TRIBAL IDIOTS can't do that. Meaning you people can't fix this. You'll make it worse.

So enjoy these wonderful days.

One day you'll romanticize about the 2020's.

I feel you. I still read the papers but severely limit watching TV news and commentary. I’m fortunate to be in a place where I can be active outdoors for hours on end, alone or in the company of a few friends. It’s helped greatly to keep me more or less on an even keel.

Some key cases are moving quickly toward the US Supreme Court. I read things written my responsible, knowledgeable people indicating that a majority on the Court recognize they must apply the brakes to this fast-moving train to an Orban-style “illiberal democracy.” Either they will or they won’t.

If they do, we’ve got a decent shot at making it to the mid-term elections, and perhaps Dems will accept responsibility for having lost touch with the valid concerns of regular Americans and seize the opportunity to secure majorities in Congress. I hope this is how things work out.

But if the Court folds, or if the Administration ignores it, then I’m outta here. I turn 76 in a few hours. I’ve fought the good fight since I was a teenager. I’ve organized. I’ve held elective office. I’m deeply grateful that I was able to teach and inspire hundreds, perhaps thousands, of university students over a 40-year career. I need some peace and quiet now. I’m fortunate to have the means to secure it, at least for a while.

I’m in my mid-70s and I’m still a fighter.

Part of Trump’s strategy, as well as the ignorant MAGA (I know, redundancy) crowd, is to wear you down. Won’t work on me.

Sure, nothing 24x7 is healthy. So pace yourself. Take a break from the board or turn off the TV for a few days. But, at the end of the day, this is an all hands on deck exercise.

I call and/or write to the politicians that represent me to let them know how I feel. Yes, even the Democrat ones. I subscribe to certain media to support them and get trustworthy news. I support people financially (like Mark Elias - Democracy Docket) who are fighting for the cause with great skill and success. Ms. Wolf and I just signed up to attend a local protest (part of a national protest) next Saturday. My job is to make signs, and they will be snarky and funny. I even watch some TV (Chris Hayes is a fav) to get information and get inspired. And I even throw some buckazoids to non-local politicians who are fighting for the cause.

I guess it’s just in my blood. I hate fascists, and Trump is talking and acting like a fascist. My response has always been, bring it on!

Well, I think at first I was trying to keep up with and understand it all - gauge it. The city I'm in is peaceful. There's no brown shirts out taking out stores and beating and harassing people.... yet. I don't have the TV set up. I can get by with my PC, and I'm back to working on the house and hour long walks. I'm mo longer trying to keep up with all of it and am trying to get back to a normal life, and get in shape too. :) Tall order at 73, but I'll give it a shot. I tend to do well for a while and then drift off. Need to take up pickle ball with my wife.

First, the protest is in a park.

Second, I do not commit crimes and would gladly assist law enforcement if I saw a crime taking place. As an aside, I would never vote for a convicted felon either because, unlike you, I don’t just say I believe in law and order, I follow it up with my actions.

Third, I avoid any Tesla product like the plague. I won’t even ride in one.

If the courts don't hold up, somehow we have to get them to see that affording due process to those picked up by ICE, etc., is necessary to maintain the rule of law and democracy as we know it. And I'm not talking about Dope, Jedi, LM, or Mike, to whom this is an entertaining game. We need the rank and file of MAGA to understand that even though they hate illegals, etc., that by affording illegals due process they protect themselves and their families.

We agree criminal illegals and those in the country illegally can be deported with due process - so pass the damned funds already. I agree to any reasonable streamlining of the process. I read today that Federal Spending is UP since Trump and Musk took over. So if Musk is finding

There are more now who came here legally, committed no crime, have a valid visa, yet were pulled off the street by masked ICE agents, thrown into an unmarked car and disappeared. Only through subsequent searches by family and attorneys was one woman abducted in Boston- finally found in a Louisianna prison.

I’ve been executor for 5 wills; my parents, an aunt and uncle, and a first cousin. In each instance I called the SSA within 2 business days to report the deaths. In each instance the SSA Rep thanked me and then told me they already recorded the deaths.

But on March 25, though he can no longer state that 120 year olds are receiving SS checks, he still keeps the story alive by claiming to delete the accounts of 7 MILLION PEOPLE over 120.

All he’s doing here is deleting the records of former Ss recipients, which even if taken alone is a helluva bad idea.

The last date I could find for Donald Trump repeating the lie was March 4, at his joint session of Congress address, whic is still weeks after the lie was disproven.

Mike, until recently 70% of the illegals flew in and overstayed their visas - which is not a crime. So 70% are no criminals because the didn't "break into our country". Additionally, those who crossed the b/rder and claimed asylum (refugee status) did not enter illegally. There are a ton of those. In addition, for some of those who crossed illegally it is a federal misdemeanor - not sure how that happens.

So now that the bulk of illegals are overstays, the number of those "breaking into our country" is getting smaller and smaller, and the number of non criminals is getting larger and larger - more than 70% - probably closer to 95-98% (just guessing)
