This isn’t a coordinated revolt against America or a wholesale turn toward China. Most U.S. partners see Washington as an essential partner and don’t fully trust Beijing. But nations that were once firmly in the American orbit are concluding that they cannot rely on the U.S. to provide the same leadership, markets, technology, and military protection that it has for decades. And that, foreign officials told me, is true no matter who wins the presidency in 2028.
I've bolded it. What do you think that means?
It means that most countries will no longer trust America, no matter who is the next president. It means that Trump has destroyed America's strategic position as the world's preeminent global leader so thoroughly already, that it cannot be recovered in the foreseeable future. It means that people in other countries saw the disaster that was Trump's first term and were willing to withhold judgement until they saw that Americans elected him again, and therefore the American people are too stupid to be trusted again in our lifetimes. It means that the "American century" is over and it's not coming back. It means that America's main rivals, China and maybe Russia, can celebrate the fact that from now on they will have at least equal weight with America in world affairs.
