The GOP isn't blocking the release of the files because Trump's name is all over them. They're blocking the release of the files because there's nothing interesting in them.

That's a major, major problem for them - because a big core of MAGA was convinced to believe that the Elites are just a bunch of raging pedophiles that all use their power and connections to get away with harming children with no consequences. They voted for Trump because they believed he wasn't part of the in-crowd of Elites, and would blow the doors off all their wrongdoing.

If (when) all the files are released, there will be no wrongdoing in them - or rather, no wrongdoing except by people we already know about. There will be no "client list," no evidence that Epstein was procuring girls for anyone but himself. There will be nothing that would lead to an indictment, nothing that shows that the Elites were protecting their friends from anything.

And the MAGA base won't accept that.

The GOP knows this. Trump knows this. He knows that conspiracy nuts don't respond to evidence by giving up their conspiracy beliefs. They respond to it by adapting the conspiracy to include the new evidence. If the files are released and they don't include a "client list" and actionable evidence of child abuse by high-powered famous people, all his voters will simply conclude.....that Trump is in on the conspiracy. That he's ordered Bondi to keep the documents secret. It doesn't matter whether there's anything in the files that implicates him. His voters will (at a minimum) conclude that Trump is now trying to protect the Elites, and might conclude that he's trying to protect himself. And there's no way to disprove it.

All Trump wants is for this to get pushed past the midterms.
