The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

I consider the Jewish claim weaker simply because it -at least partially- relies on divine decree of a "promised land", and a myth of Moses, whom scholars agree never existed.

The historicity of the Jews in the area is not disputed. The Jews lived in that area of the world prior to the diaspora. It's not just the bible - it's also Roman history that documents that the Jews were indigenous to Judea prior to being expelled by the colonial power in the second century by Emperor Hadrian.

Wikipedia: Jewish–Roman wars - Wikipedia

While there are some Jews that make religious arguments about the bible, it doesn't make the claim any weaker. No more than the fact that Native Americans may make spiritual arguments about their connection as an indigenous people to the lands here. Or any other people of the world that has a creation myth about how they came to be. You don't have to believe in the creation myths of, say, the Tibetan people to recognize that they have a claim as an indigenous people in that part of the world to be liberated from Chinese control and have their own autonomy - and the fact that they have a creation myth doesn't undermine their claim.
