Changes to the Dow Industrials could be coming this year, and the two most obvious candidates for admission are Google parent Alphabet and Amazon.com . Other possible entrants are Berkshire Hathaway and Tesla. It has been more than three years since the last component changes to the index.
If the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices does change Dow Industrials components this year, other candidates for removal besides Walgreens include Travelers, Verizon Communications , and Intel. S&P Dow Jones Indices doesn’t comment on potential changes to its indexes.
Travelers could be the next-most-vulnerable Dow member for removal after Walgreens because it has the second-lowest market value, and the insurance industry doesn’t have outsize importance in the stock market.
