Across the government many 'probationary' employees (those hired into permanent positions but with less than a year in service) are being fired. As probationary employees they can be fired without cause.

I've been reading a lot of sad stories. The son of a friend worked for many years as a volunteer and a low paid seasonal with the National Park Service, because his dream was to be a park ranger. He was just hired into a permanent job and is suddenly fired without cause. This young man has a masters degree and has worked his ass off to get that job and would have been a wonderful addition to the NPS.

Another person posted that their brother got a job to work in IT at Yellowstone NP. He moved his family to the park and was renting park housing. He was in the probationary period and now is out of work, out of a home, and unceremoniously cut loose. Tough luck.

Almost all the seasonal staff for the National Parks will not be hired on this year. What a mess.

But here's a thing I've noticed: Whenever there is a post on Facebook about some cruel/stupid thing that this administration is doing the MAGAs turn out in droves to put up the laughing emoji face. Sometimes they have a lame comment, but mostly they just like to laugh at people's pain.

So Trumpian.

The cruelty is very much a feature and one that the MAGAs seem to love. Many of them may eventually realize that they are cutting their nose off to spite their face.
