The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

with the extremists on the Zionist side becoming the leaders of the new Israeli state.

Once again, historic revisionism. The extremists on the Zionist side were left out. It took them 30 years to gain a foothold in Israel's government, and paradoxically the first prime minister in Israel to achieve progress toward peace was Menachem Begin.

There was never an attempt to create a multiethnic or federalist state such that the creation of an ethnically exclusive state became the only goal. Such a conception of the state problematizes ethnic outsiders and often leads to the ethnic cleansing and genocidd that followed (and continues to this day).

Partition never solved this problem, it only internalized it in the new Israeli state, and it continues to haunt the Zionist project. At some point the question of citizenship status and human rights of all people under effective Israeli authority must be addressed.

Right, there was never an attempt to create a multiethnic state, because *no one* wanted it. It would have inevitably led to a very bloody outcome.

Your attempt to ascribe some original sin to Israel's existence is in line with the desire of its foes to expel or kill all Jews in Palestine and establish a Palestinian Muslim ethnostate in its place.

Israel is today in the hands of extremists who have hijacked the country and the meaning of Zionism. I make no excuses for them. But the solution is not to fulfill the genocidal dreams of the other side.
