The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

"I don't know of anyone who doesn't support a background check. What anyone is and should be leery of is ending up on a list somewhere. We've seen first with the Obama and now the Biden administrations that there is a willingness to exercise the federal government's power over ordinary citizens, almost gleefully so."

Someone then - is holding us back from having stricter background checks. If it's not the NRA and other such groups and like-minded individuals I can't think who else would do that.

The rest of your points, I share the concerns. However, I supported President Bush's Patriot Act, and no-Fly lists. So did many on the right. And after that so did Obama and Biden and Liberals who pretended not to support it just cause it was Bush.

And yes, the government will over-reach. Be it the Chinese Communists, or their friends in the American Progressive Left.

But, with that accounted for.....

I want strict background checks. A huge swath of America, some due to clinical illness, others due to social decay are not to be trusted any longer. America is not America any more.

Growing numbers of people - are, and will - be more concerned about them or their loved ones of all ages getting shot and killed, vs being on a list. Less and less people know of, or even give a hoot about Constitutions and less and less people have any appreciation for how it came about.

Support - is waning.

My hope is Gun Owners - get out in front of this one and bring about real, strict changes.

Or I think in the end - we all lose the right.
