As the other poster said, you're capitulating preemptively. Capitulating to something that is entirely unamerican. I deleted my FB account a decade ago, but I didn't do it because of that. I did it because it was becoming a sesspool of misinformation and BS, and I didn't want to aid Zuckerberg in any way.
I agree that when one travels, one should not have any overtly political things displayed. Don't wear a MAGA hat, don't wear a Harris/Walz t-shirt. I also do not have any flags or other such identifiers. Apparently, Americans stick out wherever they go. But I still try not to advertise it. I'm there to experience their culture, not flaunt mine.
Domestically, I don't care. As it happens, I don't have any political apparel or stickers or similar stuff. Not my style. But I'm not going to scrub my laptop and/or phone. No one has ever asked me to unlock either, and I would refuse if they did (without a warrant).
That said, I am an older white male. So some privilege is attached to that (not of my own making). Being married to a Filipina, there are some places in the US I would never move to. Miscegenation is not accepted everywhere. More accepted in urban settings, which is fine since we're both getting old and need access to good doctors and hospitals.
