Not the right metaphor.
As a martial artist yourself you know that you train to avoid fighting at all costs because the second you get into one, all sorts of bad options are on the table.

However...once it's on, it's on, and you better end up winning.

Not arguing with this, because it’s true.

I’m arguing against saying that this is what Trump is doing. In short, it’s you superimposing your idea of what should be done upon Trump’s incoherent and peripatetic lack of strategy.
