Somehow we need to blunt the advance of the oligarchy, and limit the scope of their power, but the entire system is based on money. we're screwed.

Sure seems that way.

I was looking forward to the midterms with some optimism, thinking that surely people would wake up to the madness. But the analysis I've seen is not at all encouraging. Too many people who are either just plain stupid, or like the idea of living in an autocracy. They are not a majority, but they don't need to be with our system. And the Republicans are making it harder all the time for citizens to exercise their most fundamental right of voting.

Say what you will, I think we would be better off with a parliamentary system.
