The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

The best historical timing was generally clustered around 9 - 12 month trailing averages when Meb Faber wrote his paper.

I ran 10, 12, and 15 month.
10 because that's about 200 days, which is common. Also, GTT timing works best at 43 weeks.
12 because that's simple and explainable. YOY is a very common measurement interval.
15 because that's what musselmant likes.
Anything in that general range works okay. None of the periods or indexes are a hill to die on.
If the two important risk metrics, MaxDD and Sortino, are about the same, less trading and fewer whiplashes are better. The thing here is to have good overall returns without scaring you out of the strategy.

You and musselmant are arguing for longer period averages (64 week, 325 day, etc.).
Not me. Him.
