To me, Shapiro, Rahm Emanuel, even Beshear represent the sanity. Not perfetion but - sanity.
Trouble is ----as I've said for 3 years--- an angry tribal nation doesn't want sanity. It wants anger. Aggressiveness.
in 2016 - Republicans had it with the Bush clan. The establishment, And Trump was clever to hook them using issues that Sheeple has smugly ignored for decades. Good candidates --like John Kasich were lost. Legacy candidates like Jeb Bush were a joke. Also - -as I said -- the "anti Trump" GOP primary vote was split between multiple candidates thus allowing Trump to take the nomination with tiny majority or even plurality.
IF I let myself get weak - to where I want to see the country course correct, I'd really love to see a Beshear, Shapiro, Emanuel.
BUT - let's say the centrist folks all run--- I feel they MIGHT split the vote and at that time, if the Socialists are for ONCE smart enough to have one candidate ----they'll do just like Trump and win hence for 3 years I said -- don't underestimate AOC --worst case she'll become a Ted Kennedy powerhouse in the Senate when she unseats Schumer.
Now to the backroom cigar set -yes both parties have it. IF Dem bosses dont want the socialists ---they better fund 1-2 socialist candidates to dilute that socialist vote. And come Super Tuesday or before -the Dem bosses need to tell the centrists --- ONE of you is continuing and if we hear a peep out of the others --you'll never get a dime or even a crossing guard job from the party again.
Finally I'll repeat: Yes there will also be civil war in the GOP and that is normal for a tribalistic country. Despite that----if I were Dems I'd fund a 3rd party Republican. I dont care who -- Kasich? Ridge? Jeb? Tucker Carlson? Let that guy tip a few swing states to Dems.
I never thought I'd say it ----and I hate saying it---and I mean this 70%. ---- Clintonism/Obamaism Democratic platform and governance is what I'd love to see. Yeah tehre will be stuff I dont like --but I'm not a Club 401K'er where I need purity on my little checklist.
I'm very disappointed with my side. We FINALLY did the platform I was touting since 1999 on TMF. But we didn't enact it properly. Furthermore we could've had a Worker's Party that would outlast 20 years of demographic shift in this country but instead, we are open about Medicare, Social Security, ACA being nuisances to us.
So we might have squandered a generational chance for Republicanism, and some form of Center-Right governance to take hold
If Dems eventually get this right ----meaning they dont do the pronoun and illegal alien shit-and focus on MONEY issues----we Republicans will be relegated to praying for a Centrist government for awhile to come. We'll run a Bob Dole in 2032 perhaps :)
At this point though, I feel the trajectory----is permanently downward albeit we can pick slow or fast. The train has indeed left the station whether it's Reagan or FDR or Clinton at the helm now. Only Capitalist Dynamism + Fossil Fuels is making this a slow decline versus a quickie.
