...predictably has gotten zero coverage on most of the liberal networks. And why should it? Their audiences still believe it all came from the market thing. But guess what?

Whether or not there is something of note in the diaries themselves, I’ll address just this one charge.

The diary pages were released on Saturday by Rand Paul. Paul is a noted conspiracy theorist, noted for promoting such ideas as the “NAFTA Superhighway”, advising against childhood vaccines, and wondering if routine military maneuvers are a government plot, among other things. (He often accuses the FDA, IRS, and other government agencies of targeting conservatives - even when conservatives are in power.)

So anyway, it’s released on a Saturday, when most newsrooms are staffed by the B and C teams, when there are fewer people at work in newsrooms or at all, when sources are harder to reach, when the bosses are relaxing on a boat or swimming pool.

The New York Times has a story today: Tuesday. After looking at the stuff on Monday and going through the traditional story conference meetings and assigning someone to write it up. Of course, the New York Times could easily be part of the conspiracy, so I’ll give you Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal - which also did not cover it until a story was written and published at 4:56PM on Monday, making it into the Tuesday print edition of the paper.

It isn’t that the “media” ignored the story, it wasn’t something like a bombing or an earthquake that is just reporting on observable facts, it required vetting given the source and the import. I suspect that’s exactly why Paul released it on a weekend, he knew the uncritical Conservative media would hype it and it would enter the blogosphere around the edges of trustworthy editors, who don’t just grab any random piece of paper and flash it on television without consideration.

Again, I remind, The Wall Street Journal story was written Monday, late afternoon. By contrast, the Washington Post did run a story over the weekend. “The Dispatch”, a Conservative online news source did not publish the Faucci diary stories until Monday as well.

Note that the accusation covers the period Saturday, Sunday, and up through 9AM Monday. Convenient.
