Hard to say.

John Oliver did a piece on AI last Sunday. It's kinda scary. People are already being fooled, and it's only going to get better at deceiving (e.g. generating fake images and videos). It's already proliferating on social media (called "AI Slop"). Given that a lot of people get their news on social media, the impact of this can be tremendous. (And, at least in the USA, we can't do anything about it.)

It's worth a view, if you haven't already seen it. HBO/Max, or that segment is also available on YouTube.

People are going to have to put in a lot more work to figure out what is real. I already don't believe anything in social media, so I'm ahead of the curve. But at some point legit outlets may be fooled and start publishing them. Then we're really screwed.
