There was a beer commercial on TV, in the 80s, with Yakov Smirnoff. The pitch was "in America, there is plenty of Bud Light, and you can always find a party. In Soviet Union, there is no Bud Light, and the party finds you".

Local news just ran a piece about the owner of a business in a metro Detroit city. She was in a minor traffic accident, in that city, and deemed to be at fault. Even though she owns a business in that city, and pays taxes to the city for her business, her home is not in that city, so the city sent her a bill, for nearly $800, for the police response to her accident.
