The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

'Economics' is called The Dismal Science. Who knows what they call 'Finance'. Maybe, The Pretend Science, because it certainly isn't a real science, not with its easily disproven, Gaussian assumption that "returns distribute normally". But the point of this post isn't to argue theory, but to have a bit of the fun that Manlobbi promised would be part of this forum.

So here's a couple of light-hearted songs whose underlying messages are --nonetheless-- as serious as a heart attack, because the issues raised are still bring kicked down the road, rather than being dealt with by the proverbial --but absent-- "adults in the room".

The first is a pitch for the role of cash in times of crisis.
YouTube: Video

The second is a bit of financial history.
YouTube: We Didn't Start The Crisis - Parody - NYU Stern Follies 2009 (Sana)

The third is as good an explanation as any of QE.
YouTube: Clarke and Dawe - Quantitative Easing (ClarkeAndDawe)

If you poke around on the web, you'll find dozens more such songs, a couple of which are directly relevant to bond investing --especially the topic of managing risk-- that I'll take up in later posts. But here's a spoiler alert: Kenny Roger's, "The Gambler". One could do worse than take its lessons to heart.
