Yeah, they probably can't prohibit political signs on private property. They can on HOA property ("common areas").
And, yes, they cannot prohibit satellite dishes or ham radio antennae. They do not have the power to restrict someone's ability to receive information. 1poormom was on the board of an HOA when that ruling was made, and a few residents then put up dishes. HOA tried to coerce them to put them someplace "unseen" from the front of the dwelling, but they couldn't really enforce that.
We have no HOA. There was supposed to be one, but whomever set it up initially screwed up. One neighbor tried to get everyone together to fix it, but only a few were even interested. So we have no HOA. So we can have weeds, any colors we want...but still no dead bodies. The city would have a few issues with that.
