in defiance of the Supreme Court's order sure seems like a constitutional crisis.

The SC has a tool in its toolbox that it has not *yet* employed. They have the authority to deny anyone representing the US govt from being allowed to argue the govt's case in front of the court. No show = they lose. The court COULD destroy him by such an action. We see it happen at the state Supreme Court level all the time--when the state does NOT want the matter to be decided "under the law".
