It's not selfishness. It's perfectly reasonable to be upset that one person would have their health care paid for them for their entire life, while you have to pay for your own health care and pay the taxes to pay for theirs, for no reason other than an arbitrary date.

So some people are arbitrarily not covered by employee health insurance while those that are covered by employee health insurance are being subsidised by the remainder of the population by tax reductions.

Just because there are difficult and competing choices does not make something unviable. The US universal health care aversion reminds me of all the people complaining about having to wear seatbelts, or having children in car seats or retirees paying property taxes that support schools etc.

Universal health care is obviously possibly. It has major benefits for society, but people resist change.

One major benefit of universal healthcare would be a more efficient workforce. My son working in Australia recently changed jobs. At no time did healthcare come into the decision process. In the U.S., how many people are dissuaded from starting their own business due to health insurance concerns?
