The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Keep in mind, Hezbollah respected the 2024 cease fire, until the attack on Iran started. It was Israel that ignored the cease fire, and bombed Lebanon on a near daily basis.

Israel orders destruction of bridges in Lebanon and homes near Israeli border

TEL AVIV, March 22 (Reuters) - Israel's military has been ordered to destroy all bridges over Lebanon's Litani River and to step up the demolition of Lebanese homes near the Israeli border, the country's defence minister said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, influential Israelis are advocating for the area south of the Litani to be filled with Israeli settlements, just as the west bank (Judea and Sumeria to those in Florida) is being filled with Israeli settlements. Then, of course, Israel will want to take another slice off Lebanon, to "protect the settlements south of the Litani".

Beyond buffer zones: Southern Lebanon may need a permanent Israeli presence - opinion

After decades of temporary buffer zones, Israel may need civilian presence in southern Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah’s return.

For years, Israeli strategists have recognized that the Litani River constitutes the natural defensive line in southern Lebanon. As early as 1978, during Operation Litani, Israel pushed northward to that river in an effort to remove terrorist bases that were launching attacks against Israeli civilians.

A growing movement in Israel has begun to argue that the only way to guarantee lasting security in the North is not merely military control of territory but the establishment of permanent Jewish communities there. One such initiative is Uri Tzafon (“Awaken, O North”), an organization advocating the settlement of southern Lebanon as a long-term security solution.

Lebensraum

1: territory believed especially by Nazis to be necessary for national existence or economic self-sufficiency
2: space required for life, growth, or activity

Lebanon is about 105 miles long, north to south. The Litani is roughly 20 miles north of the current, officially recognized Israeli border. So, it would take about 5 cycles of Lebanese ethnic cleansing, followed by Israeli settlement, to completely annex Lebanon.
