“Looks like RSP dropped around 57% from highs in 2007 to 2009, and around 32% during Covid. Man, it’s been so long since the GFC I forgot about the pain of those 50% drops.
And yeah, I had some cash and big plans to buy during the GFC, but I mostly chickened out.”
For the dot-com we were just starting out. Dollar-cost averaging into investments was about it. Worked out though.
In the GFC I blew our stash far too early. That was painful. Net worth down 50% at one point.
Covid I got lucky with Berkshire near the low.
Next time, if there is a next time, I will have cash. However, life has moved on and the firehose of cash coming in has, by choice, slowed to a trickle. I’m not going to go all in like I did in 08. Don’t need to.
I don’t believe Berkshire will either, by the way. They will invest some and get some good deals when the carnage is over. They won’t catch the bottom or anything close to it.
