With the eye-popping estimates for the power draw of all the "data centers" being planned, I wondered if the power companies would decide that Prole households could be deemed expendable, in the service of keeping the data centers running.
Received an entreaty from my local utility this morning:
Are you getting the most out of your smart thermostat? When you enroll in DTE Energy’s Smart Savers program, you earn rewards without having to make any changes yourself.
When you join Smart Savers, you help manage spikes in energy demand by allowing DTE to adjust your thermostat by up to four degrees for up to four hours. As a thank you for helping us keep energy generation cleaner and more affordable, you get a $50 bill credit every October.
(insert Sir Humphry's camel's nose speech here) I would not be surprised if, once you have handed over control of your thermostat, the company will expand those degree and time limits, as needed, to keep who motivates them the most, running.
