The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

The safest of the AI plays is clearly Alphabet.

I could also put forth an argument that it is least safe. Alphabet is the only one of the big AI companies that is developing a new line of business (AI services) AND is doing it, at least in part, to protect their primary line of business (advertising, mostly in search). So a portion of what they gain on the AI side may be lost on the search engine advertising side.

And it can also be used an an argument that is is more safe - because they are fighting to retain a huge existing business line, they have a very strong incentive to "get it right" and win, otherwise they not only "lose" (or come in second or fourth or whatever) the AI war, but they would also lose quite a bit of their existing advertising business.
