I love Ascott (discoverasr.com), a worldwide chain of "Serviced Apartments", with their slogan "Your home away from home". I stayed several times for a month (and sometimes for a week) in one of their Bangkok properties. The main difference to a Hotel: Not serviced daily, but with kitchen + washing machine + far larger apartments than for a Hotel room of comparable price ("my" Bangkok apartment is 80sqm).

I'm getting to the point where the thought of seeing sights is nice but the hassle of getting there and dealing with a somewhat "iffy" intestinal track causes me to think maybe I've seen what I've seen and have no bucket lists. And if I do go (my wife loves to travel and may have to do so with her friend instead of me at some point) the thought of staying at a "home" like place for a few days to rest/recover and not eat out non-stop for a few weeks is a big plus. My last trip in 2024 unfortunately involved either food poisoning or some virus for a rough late night and not eating for several days. It was good for a 15 lb weight loss but not something away from home and has me a bit gun shy. I keep thinking if that happened on a plane how miserable it would be for me and everyone on it.

I'm toying with seeing if I can get a trip for the Christmas markets which we really enjoy. I'm a huge Christmas person and love cold/snow despite living in Arizona.
