The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

And yet we have liberals protesting in favor or algae and rolling up on their bikes to harass federal workers who are merely doing their jobs.

That's not libs here, Dope1. The folks who are posting on this board aren't doing that.

You should know that if you're going to issue a blanket defense of a thing then you've put yourself in the position of defending everything that happens, counselor.

You should know that's not true. For example, I'm pretty sure your blanket defense of restoring national treasures is not a defense of, say, doing a terrible job and damaging a national treasure. Right?

One can - and should - argue in favor of conducting restoration with care and forethought, and following established processes. Which is what people are doing here. But Trump didn't do that, so now the reflecting pool looks terrible.

I mean, come on man. If this had happened on a Democrats' watch - if Obama had rushed in to spend $14 million on a no-bid contract to do this and it ended up resulting in a massive algae bloom and the coating peeling off the floor - you'd be the first in line to say it was because Democrats are terrible at being in charge. The government did a bad job at restoring the reflecting pool. Pointing that out doesn't mean that people like or want national treasures to be damaged by poor government decisions.
