Since AI skews left, sooner or later the liberals will around to granting them civil rights, eligibility to vote and to receive entitlement benefits. Perhaps even reparations for all those years the robots were pressed into performing menial tasks without compensation.

Skews left??

You do know that they have had issues (since at least 2016) of AI "chatbots" going racist/NAZI, yes? Back in 2016, Microsoft had to shut theirs down because of it. Meta's (Facebook) was anti-semitic as recently as 2022.

But to get back to sci-fi, no good ever comes from AI. Star Trek had a few episodes (e.g. I Mudd, The Ultimate Computer, and a few others) where AI went off the rails. The Forbin Project was a movie about something similar, as well as the Terminator series. The only benign one I can recall was Bicentennial Man. Every other one is dystopian.

We're getting close to a machine that can pass the Turing Test. We better keep really tight reins on it, otherwise it might decide we are just a nuisance. And if it can get into infrastructure and/or military networks, we would have a problem.
